Surprise!

The guy who lives in your device writing blog posts has a new book coming out on May 10th. Almost 5 years to the day since the last one. (It’s been quite a while but I’m still faster than George R. R. Martin.)

Plays Well With Others: The Surprising Science Behind Why Everything You Know About Relationships Is (Mostly) Wrong will help you scientifically improve your relationships – not just love, but all your relationships including friendship and community.

Please do pre-order a copy at Amazon or Barnes & Noble. But that’s not really why I’m writing today…

This is not the “official” announcement. That’s coming soon and I’ll detail the glorious bonuses you’ll receive for pre-ordering. This here email is all about getting the word out. I believe this is a book people really need right now – and, Obi Wan, you’re my only hope…

You see, back in 2019, I was playing with the idea of writing a book on relationships. I looked around and saw a lot of people having trouble connecting with each other. That we were all more distant and apart these days. Even those who were good with people were finding it harder. That many of us were isolated and lonely and…

IN BURSTS 2020 LIKE THE KOOL-AID MAN

The pandemic. Socially, things went from bad to unbelievably worse. Seemingly overnight Earth was transformed into an Upside Down Clown World. We all needed to come together by, um… getting away from each other. Lockdown and the uncanny bleakness of life lived on Zoom. Our social instincts withering like animals in captivity. I feared by the time all this was over the only thing we’d be able to connect with was a phone charger…

So the idea of writing a relationship book took on a new urgency.

A higher purpose.

I became a man on a mission

For me, 2020 was a ceaseless isolated mania of stuffing scientific studies into my eyeballs. I became obsessed, hunched over my laptop like I was formulating the Marshall Plan. I gave everything but up. A friend and I began referring to it as TBTKE: The Book That Killed Eric.

But it did not kill me. Sure, finishing it felt more like passing a kidney stone than a milestone and by the time I was done l looked like the reason most people go to rehab – but it was DONE.

I felt I had written something we all needed right now. A book to help us get back on track. To undo some of what the pandemic had done to us. To not only help us connect and love one another like we had before – but to be even better.

And now I need your help to get the word out.

If you or a friend have a big social media following, a big podcast, connections in journalism or news, please reach out and let me know.

I apologize in advance that I won’t be able to respond to all the emails. Book launches are crazy and the next few months are going to be like a hurricane for me. But I’ll be sharing all the press coverage on my platform to further spread the word.

This is a chance for all of us to help undo the social negatives the pandemic has caused. To do some good. To hit earth with a scientific social defibrillator.

If you know someone who can help, please email me here.

After years of work, I’m really excited to share what I’ve learned with you. To help us reconnect with others and not only get back to normal but get to better.

Thanks,
Eric
